How to Disable Activity Status on Instagram

Hiding your activity status affects Instagram privacy in a couple of ways.

The first way is the most obvious. Hiding your activity means that people can’t tell when you’re actually online. That prevents a degree of online stalking as well as casual peeping at what you’re doing.

However, the biggest advantage of hiding your status is that you are able to use Instagram without social pressure. Your status gives away when you’re on Instagram as well as the last time you used Instagram. That means it makes it easier for someone to ask “Why didn’t you like this photo.”

Whatever reasons you have for hiding your status, here’s how you do so:

  1. Tap “Settings” on your profile.
  2. Disable “Show Activity Status.”

Just be aware that this setting is universal. That means that disabling it means that you won’t be able to view other people’s status either.

How to Turn Off Activity Status and Green Dot on Instagram

Few months back, Instagram launched the dreadful Activity status feature. Basically, it shows the last active time of people on Instagram with whom you have had direct conversation. If that wasn’t enough, recently they introduced the online status indicator. When a person is online, you will see a green dot next to their name in Direct Messages (DM).

Here are the steps to turn them off.

Step 1: Go to your profile and tap the three-dot icon or the gear icon.

Step 2: Scroll down and tap on Activity status. On the next screen, disable Show activity status. This will turn off activity status and green dot both.

How do I check my Instagram activity results?

Checking your results on Instagram is important to optimizing your performance. Up until recently, Instagram didn’t give any statistics about your posts and account except for the number of likes, replies, and mentions of your profile.

However, this has changed with the introduction of the Instagram Business Account (very similar to Facebook Business) which gives you access to Instagram Insights. It, however, has some limitations. For example, you get the data for the last seven days only. Not long, right? It’s impossible to conduct a thorough analysis on such a short timeframe. Also, when your Stories disappear, you lost their data. To understand your performance on Instagram, you need something extra, some external tool. Like Sotrender.
